Invisalign Teeth Straightening – No Metal

If you are talking to your dentist about straightening your teeth with Invisalign®, ask about your options. Traditional braces use metal brackets and wires. Depending on your alignment needs, you may be able to avoid having a metal mouth. Invisalign trays are an easy and less fussy way to correct alignment and bite issues. With fewer parts, you may find Invisalign teeth straighteners easier to care for. Here are a few reasons why you might prefer to try Invisalign to improve your smile.

Invisalign trays versus traditional braces

Invisalign trays and traditional braces are different devices that can help patients achieve the same goal. Invisalign trays are removable for eating and drinking. Patients should also take the teeth straighteners out for brushing and flossing. When a patient gets traditional braces, it is a different process. Traditional braces are not removable and require changing eating and oral hygiene habits. Wearers often struggle with getting toothbrushes and floss between all the metal parts.

Many metal moving parts

Traditional braces use brackets, wires, springs, and rubber bands. The dentist cements the brackets to the center of the teeth. Wires connect the brackets, and rubber bands hold the wires in place. At each visit to the dentist, the dentist adjusts the braces tighter to move the teeth into alignment. The process is very effective but requires metal parts that can cause cuts and sores in the mouth. The parts can also come loose and cause a lot of discomfort.

Invisalign trays are simple

The Invisalign system is simpler and does not need any metal parts for success. The trays are more discreet than the metal parts of the traditional braces. Digital mapping ensures that the Invisalign trays fit closely to the patient’s teeth. There are no metal parts to poke or cut the gums and inside of the cheeks and lips. Some Invisalign trays may rub against the gums a little. The dentist can smooth down the rough edge, and a little dental wax protects the area from further discomfort.

Fewer parts, fewer trips to the dentist

Invisalign wearers make fewer trips to the dentist because Invisalign trays do not need adjustments. The patient changes from one set of trays to the next according to the schedule set out by the dentist. With traditional braces, the wearer must go to the dentist’s office regularly to have the braces adjusted. If not, the teeth will not move into alignment. Scheduling conflicts and other issues can even delay progress for traditional braces wearers.

No metal is better — try Invisalign

If your teeth need straightening, you should consider trying Invisalign. Your dentist can perform an exam and go over whether Invisalign is a good choice for you. The clear plastic trays of Invisalign make teeth straightening easier for many patients. You will appreciate the discreet and comfortable trays of Invisalign over traditional braces. You can have a beautiful smile without any of the metal parts of traditional braces.
